This large purse was made by Theresa Navichoc and was purchased at the Casa Flor Ixcaco women's cooperative in San Juan la Laguna on Lake Atitlan. The women of San Juan started numerous cooperatives to simultaneously preserve their culture of ancient Maya arts and raise the standard of living of coop members. They have succeeded at both. Members are making a livelihood by carrying on the ancient arts of weaving and dyeing and their children have obtained more education and job skills since joining the cooperatives. The women of the coops produce meticulously made and beautifully dyed textiles using the techniques of their Maya ancestors.
We at Elsa Ortiz Online want to support their efforts and are experimenting with a few of the very high-end products from the Casa Flor Ixcaco cooperative. This purse is one of those products.
