Worry dolls originated in Guatemala. They represent the mythical Mayan princess Ixmucane (icks-moo-ca-neigh) who had a special gift given from the sun god that allowed her to solve any problem a human could worry about. Legend has it that if you tell them your sorrows, fears and worries before bedtime and put them under your pillow, your worries will be gone when you wake up in the morning.
